  • Mammography - Assistant Practitioners Training

We are pleased to welcome you to the new programme Mammography Assistant Practitioner Training (MAPT). This course is delivered collaboratively with our colleagues at The Jarvis Breast Centre (Education & Training). The course is delivered rotationally between the 2 National Training Centre to enable students to benefit from the wealth of experience both academically and clinically. All of the teaching team are involved with deliveries across both sites. This programme will enable you to explore a new environment in healthcare where you will be undertaking both clinical training and theoretical learning.

The programme is a one year intensive course designed to prepare you for study and become clinically competent in the breast screening department.

The introduction of the role of Assistant Practitioners (APs) has been widely implemented within departments of mammography. APs make a significant contribution to service delivery and the breast screening team.

APs have become a well-established element of the workforce in the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP). The practice of APs has been recognised through The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) accreditation scheme. This process of accreditation allows APs to agree to have their name entered on a public voluntary register that allows members of the public to confirm that the AP has been appropriately trained and clinically competent to practice. The SCoR support the need for APs and this new programme is accredited by the SCoR and approved by the NHSBSP programme Lead Radiographer - Claire Borrelli.
